Innovatia Logo Innovatia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aliant (www.aliant.ca), creates and delivers quality knowledge services through a combination of e-Learning, technical documentation, pre- and postsales technical support solutions, and inside sales.

As an Application Service Provider (ASP), Innovatia needed an e-Learning solution that could be configured easily to service multiple customer audiences. They also needed a solution that was configurable to provide a different look and feel for each customer, thereby allowing learners from each company to view their e-Learning materials in a style that fits exactly with their corporate intranet and internal design standards. Valero Energy Logo Valero has over 1,100 company-operated retail sites that spread west from Texas through California. Managing and distributing updated policy and procedure manuals to these stores has always been a challenge. For example, the 800+ page Retail Operations Manual and the Employee Handbook are continuously evolving as the business changes and grows. In the past, these books and any necessary updates were printed at a central location and then shipped to regional offices for distribution. It was difficult to ensure the consistency of the manuals, because replacing the outdated information with the updates was the responsibility of each user. Smith and Nephew Logo Smith & Nephew is a global medical device company, employing over 7,000 people with operations in 34 countries. Smith & Nephew wanted to make e-Learning an integral part of the culture of the company and develop staff training beyond traditional instructor led courses. They believed a blended learning approach would increase the effectiveness of their training investment. Another important aspect was the ability to repurpose existing training content which could be shared across the organisation. Their vision was to develop a personal learning system which allows staff to learn at a convenient time and place. Academy of Art College Chris Lefferts was recruited by the Academy of Art in January 2002 to develop their online presence and grow their student base to enable students from all over the world to complete degree courses entirely over the web. At this time, he was given aggressive deadlines to have the first seven courses online in time for the summer sessions. Chris was starting from a blank canvas, there was no technical infrastructure in place, no platform had been decided on and no other staff had been hired. The project had high visibility with the president of the college who set a target for 500 online students by Spring 2003.
