Welcome to the new format of WBT NEWS, WBT Systems' online newsletter, written for our customers, partners, and anyone else interested in e-Learning. WBT NEWS is distributed on a quarterly basis to more than 10,000 recipients, and contains relevant and timely articles by experts both inside and outside of WBT Systems. With each issue, WBT NEWS provides insights and analysis of the trends, issues, and techniques that are impacting e-Learning. It also keeps you appraised of the latest WBT Systems' products, news and events.

Amongst other topics, this edition focuses on Compliance, specifically in the Financial Services and Healthcare industries. WBT Systems has worked with companies in highly regulated industries for many years, enabling companies to develop learning solutions that deliver rapid knowledge and return on investment. We also know how to detect areas of non-compliance and proactively address them before they become a problem. Our solution gives executives and boards of directors the ability to quantify return on investment and establish metrics by which to measure operational effectiveness as it relates to compliance management.

We welcome your comments and suggestions about this newsletter and ideas for upcoming issues of WBT NEWS. To find out how to contribute an article to this publication, e-mail wbtnews@wbtsystems.com. For more information on any item in this newsletter, see www.wbtsystems.com

Compliance Survey Shows Loss of Reputation No.1 Concern for Financial Services Companies

WBT Systems recently carried out a survey of Compliance Officers in UK Financial Services Institutions. When asked about the biggest problem that could arise from a compliance failure, 89% of respondents said damage to corporate reputation was their number one concern. Second was the inability to conduct business during and following a compliance failure, followed by the financial penalties, personal risks (including incarceration) and the potential for civil litigation. The survey was conducted with over 50 of the leading UK companies in December 2002.

In response to this, WBT Systems has developed CIARA (Compliance Infrastructure Audit Readiness Assessment), a two day consulting project which analyses the readiness of the company's infrastructure to meet the relevant compliance legislation.

TopClass Selected by Danish Confederation of Trade Unions to Train their 1.5 Million Members

The Danish Confederation of Trade Unions (Danish LO) has selected the TopClass e-Learning Suite to manage and deliver blended learning programs to its 1.5 million members across 22 different unions. TopClass is being used to consolidate knowledge from Danish LO's huge membership base, leveraging existing content by re-purposing it for a wider audience via e-Learning, rapidly capturing existing knowledge from subject matter experts and bringing together members into a common learning community where they can all contribute and benefit from each other's experiences.

“TopClass impressed us with its openness, knowledge capture tools and features to easily repurpose classroom training. However, the ability to bring all this information together into a central repository where all our members can meet as a learning community is what really makes this solution special” said Kenneth Lovholt, e-Learning Project Manager, Trade Union Centre of Competency, Danish LO. “In addition TopClass Publisher has proven easy to use for our knowledge experts - allowing them to produce e-Learning content quickly with the minimum of additional training."

WBT Systems' TopClass Announces Netegrity SiteMinder Integration

WBT Systems announced the availability of TopClass integration with Netegrity SiteMinder®. The integration allows policy-based identity and access management and supports single sign-on to the TopClass e-Learning Suite. Users can move seamlessly from an existing portal site to the TopClass application and return to the portal without the need for re-authentication.

In addition to support for multiple user authentication processes, including Netegrity Siteminder and Microsoft Windows Unified Logon, all content in TopClass is secured at the Learning Object level. Users are automatically sandboxed with access to content and collaboration areas associated only with their own courses. Administrators, instructors, authors and mangers are all secured with varying levels of security privileges that ensures they have access only to work with those users, content and other resources appropriate to their roles. These electronic signature and access rules together with our comprehensive audit trails ensures compliance with all applicable data capture standards.

New Financial Services Compliance and e-Learning White Paper

This white paper explores the business challenges faced by the financial services industry due to the changing regulatory compliance environments and ever growing oversight of organisations such as the FSA in the United Kingdom and the SEC in the United States. It also looks at how e-Learning solutions can be used to improve the delivery, tracking and management of compliance related training and certification. Not only can this be achieved faster and at a lower cost but with a much higher degree of verifiability for any audit situation.
