Enterprise Deployment of WBT Systems' e-Learning Suite in South America

Dublin, Ireland - September 30th, 2003 - WBT Systems, a global leader in Enterprise e-Learning Solutions, today announced that Duoc UC, the largest university in Chile, has selected TopClass to deliver the campus-wide e-Learning solution. 23,000 full-time students, 1,000 distance learning students and 1,000 teachers access TopClass on a daily basis to manage their classes, coursework and email. With 800 courses on TopClass and 30% of all coursework carried out online, the solution has been very successful, increasing the consistency of course content and the level of collaboration between students and teachers.

With a high number of students, teachers and courses distributed over eight campuses, Duoc UC needed a solution which would allow students and teachers to collaborate on a day-to-day basis, without the necessity of face-to-face contact. Another important requirement was to improve the consistency of course content and delivery, ensuring the same material was covered at a similar pace, irrespective of the class. Finally, having 800 courses to put on the system, being able to rapidly convert existing content into Learning Objects was an important factor in the choice of technology.

Another important element was the ability of subject matter experts to quickly convert existing training content into Learning Objects. TopClass Publisher, a desktop application for web-based course content publishing, enabled Duoc UC’s subject matter experts to repurpose content, saving time and money.
