![]() TopClass 6.2 Awarded SCORM Certification
Certification affirms WBT Systems' longstanding commitment to open standards
Pittsburgh, PA - October 28th, 2003 - Today at Plugfest 8, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania, WBT Systems, a global leader in Enterprise e-Learning solutions, announced that TopClass has been awarded SCORM 1.2 certification, the highest level of conformance with the Sharable Content Object Reference Model learning standard. TopClass LMS is among the first in the industry to be granted certification by the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL), a joint project of the U.S. Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and Department of Labor, and the original generator of the SCORM standard. SCORM Certification ensures that any SCORM 1.2 content works seamlessly with TopClass, reducing content integration and support costs. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Keyport, WA, one of the two centres accredited by ADL for certification, conducted the testing and issued the certification. The organisation used the same TopClass LMS implementation that a WBT Systems' customer might deploy, running a rigorous test suite of SCORM 1.2 content through the LMS to ensure smooth interoperability. "WBT Systems has always been a supporter of open standards and was one of the first to be SCORM conformant," said Paul Jesukiewicz, Director of the ADL Co-Laboratory. "Broad-scale adoption and support of the SCORM standard by industry leaders such as WBT Systems is crucial to the creation of a streamlined, common technical framework for e-Learning." "WBT Systems is proud is to have recieved formal SCORM certification which represents a tremendous validation of our on-going commitment to industry standards," said Duncan Lennox, Chief Technology Officer, WBT Systems. "We believe that e-Learning standards such as SCORM are vital to protecting our customers' investment in content and infrastructure. Our unique combination of LMS functionalty with an underlying Learning Objects-based content management architecture allows us to leverage SCORM to deliver secure and flexible content deployment, tracking and reporting in an open standards manner." About Advanced Distributed Learning InitiativeThe Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative, sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), is a collaborative effort between government, industry and academia to establish a new distributed learning environment that permits the interoperability of learning tools and course content on a global scale.
